Many months ago my cousin Marlene Gomez asked if I could take a photo of ants. When I accepted her request, little did I know how difficult this would be to accomplish. This whole process added skills to my photographer tool belt. I learned I could use extender tubes for my macro lens to increase magnification. I bought a lens ring flash to evenly light the subject. It further pushed my understanding of ISO, shutter speed and aperture settings to a new level. And finally, I realized the tripod I had been using all these years was limiting me in what I could potentially do with my camera.
Ants move very fast which makes it challenging to get a clear photo of them. So Marlene, here are two ant pictures out of many you will never know I took. They are not dramatic like I was hoping to capture but I think that’s okay since this was a new experience for me. You actually helped me become a better photographer and I truly thank you for that. I also love that you are one of my biggest fans and I surely was not going to disappoint you. These will not be the last ant pictures I’ll take but the other insects were telling me they were feeling kind of neglected. I hope everyone likes these pics too!
