Mortuus silva - Latin for the "Dead Forest". These are the remnants of trees recently burned by the massive Delta Fire in Northern California. Sad to see so much destruction.

I’ve been sitting on this photo for quite a while trying to figure out how I wanted to portray it. There was a ton of green in it which to me felt like it competed too much with the colors from the flowers. I’ve always been a fan of photos with a dark tone and wanted to blend a bit of that into this capture. I think I might have just succeeded. I hope you like it too!

This is Black Butte which is just outside the town of Shasta. It’s a cluster of lava domes that have overlapped and is considered a satellite cone of Mount Shasta.
